Parkinson's patients can be treated well for a long time, and for many people, this period is much longer than a few years. However, it may get more and more challenging as time goes by; as the disease progresses and motor fluctuations occur. Here substantial benefit can be obtained by implementing advanced treatment options e.g. via pumps or deep brain stimulation. Over time additional motor (freezing, falls) or non-motor (orthostatic hypotension) symptoms may add to the clinical picture that might not respond to classical dopaminergic medication and require different treatment strategies.
