Parkinson's Fighter: Pierre

Parkinson's Fighter: Pierre

It all started in 2020 when I noticed I had difficulties with everyday tasks like brushing my teeth and signing documents. I received the diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease shortly after, which was already during the Covid-19 pandemic. So it was all a bit much at first, but I have kept a positive mindset and remained motivated ever since!

As someone who has always been active in sports, I continue to play golf and ride my bike as much as possible, and I, of course, attend my regular sessions with my physiotherapist and healthcare team. To further help myself, my family and other people living with Parkinson’s, I participate in any research study I can, and I have even made plans to donate my brain to research once I no longer need it.

When my 70th birthday arrived earlier this year, and with the pandemic mostly behind us, I wanted to celebrate it well, especially since I still feel fit and healthy. I asked all my friends and family to come, and instead of giving me a gift, donate to Parkinson’s research. I am proud that we were able to gather almost 5000 EUR. This, and the fact that everyone came to celebrate with me while we still could, was the greatest gift my friends and family could give me.
